Continuing the R$N love affair with Moshi Moshi, label mainstays Povoa and Hiro Ama give Hologram Teen a further re-rub just in time for us all being let out for Xmas. Teleman drummer Hiro Ama deconstructs Move On Hop taking it on an electronic excursion into corners that Morgane Lhote aka Hologram Teen never thought the original could go. Winding things down Povoa takes Sam Samy Sam bouncing back and forth into into a low slung groove.

Hologram Teen is the solo electronic motorik disco project of Morgane Lhote. Morgane is known by many for her work as keyboardist in the seminal indie kosmische act Stereolab when they released their career defining albums including ‘Dots and Loops’ and ‘Emperor Tomato Ketchup’. Pizza Conspiracy - out earlier this month, now sold-out its limited cassette run - was a cut n' paste culture clash that could've been concocted by a chance meeting between the Avalanches and Madlib. It was picked up in many sporadic and varied corners of the 'post-COVID audio universe' (real term) and hot on its heels comes an EP of reworkings of some of the highlights of the long player.
Bawrut's rework of second single Okandjambameya focuses his attention around the elastic bassline and works it into a technicolour palette with his customary off-kilter sense of humour from our extended family member.
Andrew Claristidge aka one of half of parisian Duo ACID WASHED takes the steel drum workout of Cosmogatto on a high octane fuelled excursion and straight onto the dancefloor - remember those?! Frenetic skits and distorted rhythms overlay the original favourite from the album into something altogether different and something which makes us long to be back near the strobelights.
Clocking in at just under 2 minutes in length on the album Dalston Wizardzz was a quirky, beat tape-inspired, disco skit that was just begging for a club length format. Lucky for us Scotland’s foremost disco aficionado, Al Kent took matters into his own hands drawing it out into a full length disco odyssey.
Max Graef's Dreamworld Mix of Rock Eagle Rock takes the vibrancy of the original and packs it full of unexpected samples chopped & screwed in all the right ways.
If that's all a bit too much then thank R$N stalwart Jim Cooke aka the amazing Graintable for calming things down a little. With his Universal Ash remix EP 'Reinterpreted Universes' still fresh he's returned the favour of Morgane's remix of his Tea Forest release and woozied up Boombamakao into a customary thing of beauty that could only come from the mind of Portland's finest.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
