LA-based Hologram Teen (aka Morgane Lhote) returns to Ransom Note Records with a remix package of third album Day-Glo Chaos, in the hazy shape of Day-Glo Heatwave. Morgane reached out to old friends for re-works (with some surprising results) and it thusly features an all star cast of producers from some of the Indie-Dance world’s biggest hitters. Perfect for a scorching L.A. summer day, it’s the inverse of the original album, which was inspired by driving around the city at night. This is the daylight reimagining - so blistering that our Lamborghini is melting!
First up, Luke Temple (a.k.a. Art Feynman) takes on Mid-Tempo Neophyte, transforming it into a Yello!- esque, 80s synth-laden, robotic workout. Next, R$N Recs faithfuls Mother of Mars (Gabe & Vito from The Rapture) select Radio Staccato and slow it right down, altering the DNA to mutate it into a dance floor levelling, club monster.
James McNew (of Yo La Tengo fame) invokes The Beach Boys with his version of Midnite Rogue, pumping out a slice of West-Coast-Cali-Electro-Surf! Upping the ante even further, R$N Recs newest signing ILHA (African Ghost Valley and Nandele Maguni) get super weird on our asses with their inversion of VHS Nemesis, transfiguring things into deviant Electro-Breaks for the next generation.
We’re delighted to have a mix from a man who doesn’t usually partake in them... Guitarist with The Psychedelic Furs, Mr Rich Good. He doesn’t disappoint either, providing an Indie-Stomper rendering of Teen Beats Highway that is equal parts subdued Guitar God, and Moroder infused rolling synth lines.
The penultimate entry comes from Ambient super producer, Flug 8. Taking time out from getting millions of Spotify streams, our resident German soundscaper also takes on Midnite Rogue, designing a delicate, dusk lit theme that screams to be synced to a Tony Montana montage.
Finally, visual artist, multi instrumentalist and composer extraordinaire, Yoann Pisterman plays us out with his reworking of Abstract Daddy Vol.1. The Berlin based Frenchman (whose debut LP you can find on R$N sub-label, Bytes), ducks & dives, fooling us into thinking it’s one thing, before ripping the carpet from beneath our feet and clonking us over the head with an IDM banger, if IDM had been invented in the 80s!
